audience theory

Semiotics was created by Barthes. Sign is the physical form for example a image
Signification means attached. For example when you look at a film like the Transformers you think of action and danger.

Representation was created by a person called Hall. It also includes stereotypes which help the audience to understand the characters. it is based on equalities.

Reception encodes people. It has three catorgories dominant, negotiated and Oppositional. Dominant reading is liking the film and being interested.
Negotiated is being in the middle and not weather knowing if you like the film or not. Oppositional is opposite to dominant.

Identity was created by Gauntlet. Identity is constructed using tools from the media" Pick T Mix"
Cultiuation was created by Gerbner it is repetition of representation which means change and it is the audience perception

In this picture you can see how these techniques can be used for this picture which is advertising the film Transformers The Last Night. Semiotics was created by a person called Bathes and we can use his technique to break down this image which is advertising Transformers. As you can see ion the background there is an explosion that has happened this can tell us that there is action in this film. Also the fact that both Robots are holding a weapon shows there is danger as well. Another technique which can be used is the technique which is created by the person called Hall. This technique allows us to breakdown which character is a hero etc. As we can see there are two robots next to each other. the representation technique tells us that the robot which is standing up is the hero. We can see this by the way how he is stance and that he is the one that is standing up which shows he is more control or more power than the other robot. This can also be seen as the robot that is standing up he is looking down at the other robot which also tell us that he is the boss. the yellow robot can be seen as a follower to the other robot as well as the fact he is kneeling down and is close to being on the floor than the other robot. It can also tell us that the yellow robot is a hero and the other is in the middle. We can see this through their eyes. The colour blue symbolise pure hearted and good and that is the eyes of the yellow robot however the other robot has purple eyes which is a mixture of the two colours blue(Good) and red (bad). Within the star wars trailer you can use the technique that is called the reception.. This is when the audience have their opinion on the trailer. There are three categories which are: Dominant, negotiated and Oppositional. Dominant reading is liking the film and being interested.
Negotiated is being in the middle and not weather knowing if you like the film or not. Oppositional is opposite to dominant. Some people might say this film is excellent and looks really good then however another person may see who the director is and think they have not had a good experience with them and do not like their other films they have made so they won't see this one. And there is Negotiated where people may not like the director however find that the film look good and then go and see it.

advertising of a image and a moving image

This is an Advertisement to help children that are poor and that are in a desperate need for food or heat as they are too poor to be able to afford it. The person we see in this advert is a celebrity called Paul O Grady. Many people love Paul as he is a funny man and he has his own show. This is really effective for the “Save The Children” as people would sponsor and donate to this charity because of the fact that Paul has told them too. Also Save the Children also use people emotions to get people to donate and this is by showing what is like for poor children and what kind of condition they are living in. This is called hard cell. This technique is used to persuade people to do things by telling them a sad story or just generally playing with people heartstrings.  The camera angles in the Advertisements are close ups or mid shots. This shows the children feelings and emotions which then make us “the viewers” to be upset and feel sympathetic for the kids which then also make us donate. The audience for this advert is young adults to the elderly. There is also sad music right away in the advertisement when it starts. This tells the audience that it is a sad advertisement. Another fact is that the sky and the background is quite dark and dim which also tells the audience that this is not a happy advertisement. The slogan for the Save The Children is “We
Save Children’s Lives”. The narrative of the advertisement is that multiple children across the UK are really poor and so are the families of this children, and it is our job to support them. By the tone of Paul O'Grady's voice also shows he is very sad about what is happening, which then gives a chain effect to then we feels sad because he feels sad.

This is a non moving advert. This advert is selling cigarettes and that cigarettes are a good thing in that time. However now we all know that they are not as it can lead up to a higher risk of someone that smokes to get cancer. There is persuasive language in the advert as it says " 20,679 Physicians say Luckies are less irritating" this is persuasive because it says that even Physicians say it is good for you which then makes you come buy it and check it out. This would happen as they have had a good comment about it by a  20,679 Physician.  Lucky Strike was a pack of cigarettes however they were supposed to take away irritations from coughs. This is what Lucky Strike was used for. Its tagline is "It's toasted" the reason for this is because it is meant to burn away the irritation in your throat. The reason for burn the irritation is because cigarette burn when you inhale it. Also it is meant to give you protection before a cough as well as on this advert it says Your throat protection against irritation against coughs.  The main audience for this advert is adults. The reason for this is because in every advert it has a different adult on it.  There logo is a black red circle within a yellow circle and the yellow circle is within a black circle then in the middle it has the name of the company. There are facts in this advert as well as on the advert it gives an exact number of Physicians and how they have said it is good for you and that it keeps away irritations. This advert is advertising "Lucky Strike" and the brands they have got as well.
